The split was 8 (for death) to 4 (for life).
Now the foreman is cruising the tv circuit, saying things like "Our jury's prudence system is based on innocent until proven guilty. And this girl was crucified in the court of public opinion."
Girl? GIRL???
Excuse me while I blow some chunks. : P***
This 'girl' admitted to the murder, she's NOT innocent.
The foreman also said, "You heard (prosecutor Juan) Martinez say she was 'only' 27..."
Defense Attorney Jennifer 'Wilma' Wilmott said that. What trial were YOU watching, Mr. Foreman?
One of the mitigating factors was her age at the time of the murder. She was 27...not 7, not even 17.
Other than her age, the mitigators were:
- had no prior criminal history - does killing someone 3 times over count as 3 crimes?
- was a good friend - to a woman nicknamed 'Pothead Patty'. And to Donovan, a convicted felon.
- lacked support from family - her mom and aunt were there...every...single...day.
- suffered abuse & neglect as a child - according to Jodi, who said, "I lied to everyone."
- tried to make the best of her life - who doesn't?
- tried to improve herself - again, who doesn't?
- is a talented artist - she mostly traces but her original "art" isn't THAT special.
Now they have to bring in another jury, but only to decide the sentencing phase.* She's still convicted of 1st Degree Murder "in an especially cruel manner".
Ya think???
*scheduled for July 18th.
You forgot to mention that she also promised to sell her hair.
ReplyDeleteWhich makes me think of this: LINK
Perhaps if this murderer HADN'T been made a celebrity, she WOULDN'T have been tried in the court of public opinion and MAYBE THEN THE JURY COULD HAVE DONE THEIR JOB, INSTEAD OF BECOMING CELEBRITIES THEMSELVES.
ReplyDeleteCan you even imagine the books that will come out from those slacker jurors?
*sigh* Well, at least she's not walking out the door like Casey Anthony, right?
ReplyDeleteI don't get it. I just don't get it.
