I was watching a news report about bullies and they interviewed a martial arts instructor who said bullying has a lot to do with body language.
He said bullies pick on kids who are soft-spoken, shy, don't make eye contact, and draw within themselves.
Well, guess what? I've been bullied exactly twice in my life.
The 1st time when I was 10...and in front of the brothers. *cough*stupid move*cough* They jumped him. He apologized 3 times in the next 10 years. The last time was when I went to dinner with 2 of them and the guy was our waiter.
Moral of the story: don't bully someone, then get a service job. Especially when she has brothers.
The 2nd time was in high school. Some guy asked, "What would you do if I took that (motioning to a crutch) away from you?"
I replied, "I'd smack you with the other one." I would've fallen on my face...but HE didn't know that.
Moral to the story: don't try to bully someone who has a sarcastic personality.
When I entered the dating scene, I met guys at local restaurants.
I remember one who looked at me then walked away. I thought he didn't like the way I looked and left. A minute later, he walked by again and I smiled at him.
He approached me and said, "So it IS you. You had this 'Don't *f* with me' look on your face and I wasn't sure."
So THAT'S the secret! Having brothers, verbal sallies, and looking pissed off. : P

Bittersweet...
I went to a restaurant with the family to celebrate a sibling's birthday...on the same day my niece's b-i-l was laid to rest.
Later that afternoon, our Marine's body was finally flown home to be buried on Saturday.
I couldn't/can't attend either service because they're both out of state. On the one hand, I was/am relieved. On the other, I was/am disappointed.
We had 4 birthdays this week. One was the sister of the Marine's mom. Another was the (not yet) 21 y.o. who was buried. The other 2 are family members.
On the flip side...
There were signs all over the restaurant's bathroom walls NOT to press the red button by the light switch.
So, of course, I pressed it. A mirror ball started to twirl, disco lights began to rotate and this song played:
It was kind of kitchy but I have to admit...it put a very much needed : ) on my face.

Not again!...
I found out on Saturday that there's been another death, this time in my extended family. A young man, who would've turned 21 this week, died unexpectedly Friday morning.
I was going to post a meme today but my heart just isn't into being humorous right now.
I'll be back on Wednesday.

Too close to home...
It's been a REALLY sucky week.
I went for a blood test on Tuesday, only to be told that I didn't have the paperwork I needed (it was supposed to be taken care of).
So I got it and went back yesterday. The computers were down so it took forever to process and get the test, when I had been told that I'd get right in. Grr!
Then, that night, I saw a post on Facebook that made my heart drop and splatter all over the ground.
I know there's a war going on, but it was always 'over there'. I never thought it would matter to me. But I was wrong.
A life-long friend's son was killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday (local time). He left behind his grandparents, mom & dad, brothers, a sister, a month old niece, and his wife of just 1 1/2 years. He turned 25 last month.
The truly sad part is that he was due to come home in 2 weeks.
ODE TO A SOLDIER...
The battle's over,
The victory's won.
A soldier makes his journey home.
He fought so hard,
He fought so long.
And now he sings a victor's song.
It was not easy.
It was not slight.
But it was such a worthy fight.
The battle scars,
They tell the tale,
That war sometimes can be like Hell.
But he fought the fight,
Endured the pain,
For he knew just he would gain.
Commendations,
Medals, cheers,
Those things fade across the years.
But his gain would be
Much more than that--
A place where only few have sat.
An honored seat,
A place of call,
To sit before his General,
And hear the words
That come from Him,
"You fought the fight, now enter in!"

Shaken, rattled and rolled...
I'm sure you've noticed, over the last several years, that some major earthquakes have occurred.
Yesterday was the anniversary of the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

The reason I remember it is because that was the day I started working for an escort service.
It struck at 4:30 a.m. and was the strongest (6.7 magnitude) earthquake I've ever felt. Most earthquakes feel like you're standing on a floating dock (depending on the distance) but this one picked me up then dropped me. Thankfully, I was in bed and just bounced.
Most people around here talk about the 1971 Sylmar quake (6.6 mag at 6 a.m.) as being the strongest they've ever felt but I slept through it. The brothers still tease me about waking up afterwards and bitching about them running around and screaming.
In 1987, we had a 5.9 mag quake hit nearby at 7:45 a.m. I was in a college class at the time and it wasn't that bad. BUT, 3 days later a 5.3 aftershock hit.
Next thing I knew, I was sitting outside my door at 4 a.m., wondering what the hell happened. I still say that I started screaming when my brother picked me up and carried me out of the house. He still insists that he picked me up because I was screaming.
He wouldn't necessarily know this about me, but I'm not a screamer. At least not due to a fear of earthquakes. ; )
~~~~~~
Btw, I worked as a dispatcher for a funeral escort service. I made sure everyone was where they were suppposed to be and on-time.
What did you think I meant?
1. To be pain-free. Duh!
2. For 25 lbs. to magically disappear.
3. For my medical issues to not rule my life. Dr. appts. are like having a sucky job.
4. A nice, tight hug from my guy...and then some. ; )
5. To visit New Zealand (wishful thinking, but it's nice to dream).
6. To go back to Alaska and actually get to see the glaciers this time.
7. A leather jacket with fleece-lining. Have I mentioned that I'm always freezing?
What are some of your wants?
There's a reason I don't wear pants...
We all know what camel toe is, right?
So...what's the opposite of it?
That's GOTTA hurt!
It's like I'm back in high school...
On Saturday, I was...at least for a couple of hours.
I've already accomplished one of my goals. Woo Hoo! Three former classmates came over with their spouses and kidlets. And one of them made a comment that will live in infamy, poor girl. Something about beavers and lesbians (but you didn't hear that from me).
Okay, so I cheated since this was already in the works when I wrote that list, but I'm still counting it.
It was sooooo much fun that I'm planning another gathering soon(ish). This time I'm opening up the guest listhoping someone else opens their mouth and inserts their foot now that I know I can actually do it with minimal fuss.
I hadn't seen Ms. Foot-in-Mouth in 28 years (TWENTY-EIGHT years, people!) but we were talking away the minute she cleared the door. Actually, she was calling to me through her car window. I had to ask her to repeat herself once she was within range...and we never stopped talking.
Our two other classmates have been friends since around Kindergarten. Laurel and Hardy have nothing on these guys! We've gotten together several times and, once, I was seriously afraid that one of them would show up pantsless. Fortunately, he didn't follow through with the threat...it wouldn't have been pretty.
They all ended up staying for 7 hours and (probably) the only reason they left was because my guy finally arrived. I briefly disappeared to give him a proper "Hello" (wink, wink) and they left shortly thereafter, promising to get together soon.
I just found out yesterday that there'll be another gathering on Sunday. Sweet! More time toharass Ms. Foot-in-Mouth visit with everyone. : )
12 in 2012...
Karen at A Peek at Karen's World has a little thing going called Project 52.
She encourages her readers to set goals to accomplish - as many as 52 goals in 52 weeks. Or as many as you want to do in a year's time. No one is going to spank you (unless you want them to) if you don't get them done. The whole point is to try.
~~~~~~
When you're disabled, it's hard to set MAJOR goals. But I figure I can set 12 minor goals to accomplish in 12 months. Nothing earth-shattering. Just things I either LIKE to do or NEED to do.
Who knows, maybe this will motivate me to try twice as many goals next year.
*deep breath* Here we go!...
1. Plan and execute a party for 10+ people (not execute the party-goers. Although...).
2. Reorganize my drawers (not my underwear).
3. Go to at least one concert. (EW&F was a BLAST! And I need more blasts in my life).
4. Be in bed by 2 am for 2 weeks straight (this'll probably be the most difficult one).
5. Talk to the out-of-state sibs more often (which I pretty much only do when they call me).
6. Make my guy take me somewhere (we're both home-bodies 'aka' do-nothings).
7. Try a restaurant I've never been to (I'm leery of eating in unknown restaurants because of a health issue).
8. Finish reading the 2 photography books I bought eons ago (so I can use my camera in Manual mode).
9. Go to the used bookstore and start using the $$$ in credit I have coming to me (a reader's dream, right?)
10. Clean out my e-mail boxes (3 addys + 2-3 pages of messages = a crapload).
11. Call my guy. Period. (he's been hinting that the phone lines work both ways, lol!).
12. Move MORE. Pain sucks but so does weight gain (and I should know!).
Wish me luck! I'm sure I'll need it. Have I mentioned that I'm a procrastinator?

These things should come with a warning label...
My 2012 hasn't started out very well. First of all, my electric blanket crapped out on me on New Year's Eve.
And I just realized (damn Notepad!) that the meme I worked all night on had already been posted. Grr! It's a good thing I'm always thinking (yeah, yeah) because this is pretty damn funny.
While I was researching tablets, I came across a 'technology' website - and laughed my ass off. I cut and pasted the text so you could get the full effect.
Enjoy...
